If you’re someone who wants to give 100% with each and every workout you’re doing, one thing that you may be considering is adding a pre-workout supplement to your protocol. These are going to help you push harder in the gym, be more focused and alert overall, and may help you fend off fatigue as well, doing more work total before you call it a day.
As it would seem, all of this is very good news as far as your progress goes so it seems like a no-brainer. You should purchase a product and get faster results.
But, is that really the case?
Before you rush out to use a pre-workout product, there are some things to consider.
The Overtraining Factor
First, you need to remember that if you are going to be using a pre workout product to ‘amp’ you up for the gym, you are going to be pushing harder than your body is actually capable of doing on its own.
If you push harder day in and day out and aren’t resting sufficiently, this could quickly set you up for overtraining. Those who use these are far more prone to overtraining, not only for this reason but also because it’s going to mean they are constantly stressing their CNS as well.
The Sleep Factor
The second reason to rethink a pre-workout supplement is because most will contain caffeine and this could make it much harder to fall asleep at night.
If you take it later on in the day, even in the afternoon, it could make going to bed that night that much more challenging.
Sleep is critical to your success and recovery, so not something you should be jeopardizing.
The Psychological Factor
Finally, you also should think about the psychological factor. Use that pre-workout product for every workout and will you come to rely on it? Will you think that you need it to get in your workout session?
Many people will do just that, so you need to be careful this isn’t going to be the case with you. Only using it on days you really need it can help you avoid this.
So there you have a few points to know about pre-workout supplements. While they definitely can be helpful, you really need to weigh the pros and cons of using them.
