One of the hottest new workout trends that many people are getting involved in right now is kettlebell training. Kettlebell training is a great way to offer more variety to your workout protocol when you want to get away from straight dumbbell and barbell training and is great for fat burning as well.
Since you will be performing a number of major compound movements with kettlebell training, it’s an excellent way to boost your calorie burn and help to really drive up your fitness level.
Let’s walk you through some of the top things that you should know and consider however before you get started with kettlebell training.
You Must Keep Your Core Tight
The very first thing to note is that kettlebell training is going to be very core intensive, so it’s a must that you make sure that you are keeping it contracted at all times as you go about the movement pattern.
If you are not squeezing your core every second of the way, you could put your back at great risk of pain. Always think of keeping those abs tight and your hips lifted. This will keep your spinal column in proper position.
Your Weight Levels Will Change
Next, also take note that you will likely see a decrease in how much weight you are able to lift. This is perfectly normal and natural – and not something to get concerned over.
Especially when you first start, decrease the weight you are aiming to lift so that you can make sure that you are keeping proper form throughout the movement pattern.
It is going to provide a much different dynamic than lifting dumbbells would, so you need to allow your body time to get used to this.
You’ll Experience Greater Soreness At First
Finally, also take note that you will likely see greater soreness at first as well. Any time you attempt a brand new movement pattern, your body has to learn this pattern and that is what will lead to a higher level of muscle pain as these neuromuscular association is made.
This is one reason not to push too hard during those first few exercises. Take it at a comfortable pace so that you don’t wake up the next morning totally regretting that you did kettlebell training.
So keep these quick tips in mind as you get started with this form of strength training and you should be able to make a very smooth transition.
