Feel like if you have to choke back another protein shake you may just go a little crazy?
Many people really do not like the taste of protein powders and while they know they’re healthy to be consuming, they have an incredibly hard time getting them down.
If you feel slightly sickened by the thought of having to chuck another protein shake, then it’s time to consider some of the alternative ways that you can add protein powder to your diet so that you can still get in the protein you need, but enjoy the protein powder more.
There are plenty of ways to go about adding protein powder in, so let’s give you some ideas to get you started.
Mix With A Bowl Of Oatmeal
The first way to get protein powder into your day is to mix it into a bowl of hot oatmeal in the morning. This works great because oatmeal itself is relatively low in protein, so you need a good source to make this morning meal complete.
Protein powder will provide that. It mixes in very easily after the oatmeal is fully cooked, so prepare it in the microwave, let it sit for about 30 seconds, and then stir a scoop in.
Note that in some cases you may need to add a little more water as some protein powders will really thicken up the cereal.
Stir Into Yogurt
The second method to add more protein powder to your diet is to stir it into a bowl of yogurt. Get a plain yogurt variety – or even fruit flavored if you want to whip up something really unique and special.
Chocolate protein powder works great with strawberry or cherry yogurt, or you can go with vanilla protein powder with peach or raspberry yogurt instead.
Stir half a scoop into a cup of yogurt and then top with some berries and flaxseeds. You’ll have a very complete snack in seconds.
Make Protein Bars
Protein bars are another option to help you meet your protein needs in a hurry. Whip up a batch using any recipe you find online that meets your macronutrient needs.
For an ultra simple recipe, combine protein powder with some raw oats, enough peanut butter to make a ‘dough-like’ texture, and then some honey.
Form into balls and then roll in some dried coconut or crushed graham crackers to create the ‘coating’.
Go Without
Finally, the last option is to just go without. If no matter what you do, you still do not like the taste of protein powder, don’t force yourself to use it.
There’s nothing really ‘magical’ about protein powder that makes it any better than any other high protein food.
If you aren’t going to use the powder, then just serve up some grilled chicken, egg whites, or fish instead. This will work just as well to help you accomplish your goals.
So there you have some fast ideas to help you get your protein powder in. If you get creative, you’ll find you can easily move away from having to slam back protein shake after protein shake.
